Today is a special Giving Tuesday.
Normally, Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday following the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend. It follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the biggest shopping days in the U.S. Christmas season and it’s meant as a reminder to consider those less fortunate. People are encouraged on that day to give to their favorite charity.
Well, this is definitely not a normal year. CovID-19 has changed everything. It has sickened millions and killed tens of thousands around the world. It has thrown the World economy into a deep recession, devastating the livelihoods of tens of millions of people.
The demand for service faced by charities has skyrocketed while, at the same time, donations have dried up. To address this, the Giving Tuesday Movement is organizing a special drive, today Tuesday May 5, to raise critically needed funds for charities that serve these needs.
We, at Central, normally participate in Giving Tuesday, and we will again in November. We normally raise funds for our mission at Rachel’s Home. We are currently struggling with the logistics of providing food to the orphanage, but for the moment at least, we have enough cash on hand to make ends meet.
With this in mind, we decided to sit this special one out and instead to encourage you to give to other worthwhile charities. Locally, we encourage you to give to the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank.
If you have a bit to spare, please prayerfully consider helping the Food Bank with a financial contribution.
