This tiny postage stamp of a picture was our first view of Rachel’s Home. That little bungalow in the background was home to Hilda, Godwill and their family and up to 30 other children.
Rachel’s Children’s Home
In this walk down memory lane, we look back at our first mission trip to Rachel’s Children’s Home in 2009.
Rachel’s Children’s Home is an orphanage for the child victims of southern Africa’s HIV/AIDS epidemic. It’s located on the outskirts of Maputsoe, Lesotho, a border community across the Mohokare River from Ficksburg South Africa.
Rachel’s Home is staffed and managed entirely by local Basotho people led by the managing director Hilda Seforo. Hilda, also a local Basotho, has a degree in child psychology. Through her efforts, this tiny orphanage and school has achieved stunning success. In a country where the majority of children don’t get the chance to complete high school. Six graduates of Rachel’s Home have gone on to post-secondary education and graduated from college and university.
Central has been involved with Rachel’s Home for 17 years now. Twice, we’ve sent teams to Maputsoe. We have a long and rich history, walking alongside Hilda and her team, working to make a difference in the lives of children. Here’s a taste of our history with Rachel’s Home.
Next week, we will look back at our 2012 mission to Rachel’s Home and our ongoing efforts to make a difference in the lives of children at Rachel’s Home.
