Central supports Rachel’s Home, an orphanage and Christian school for the child victims of Lesotho’s AIDS crisis.
Maputsoe is a border town in the tiny African nation of Lesotho; one of the poorest nations on earth. It has been ravaged by the AIDS epidemic. Thousands of children have been orphaned by AIDS. It is here that a missionary couple, Hilda and Godwill chose to start their ministry.
One day they found a two week old infant abandoned at their door. They took this young girl in and named her Joy. Over time, it became known in the community that Hilda and Godwill were willing to take in and care for abandoned children. This is the story of the birth of Rachel’s Children Home.
With help from donors, a four room house was built on purchased land. Over time a two room school and then another two room school building were added. Children from the local community began to attend the school.
In March 2009, a group of volunteers from Central Presbyterian Church travelled to Rachel’s Home to build a three room addition to the original school house. We returned in 2012 to build a wash facility with 6 shower stalls and 2 bath-tubs.
At present we are supporting the eight students attending classes at Morate English Medium High School.
