Men’s Retreat – Camp Kintail

Camp Kintail

Winter is Coming…

I know that’s just about the last thing we want to hear, but it’s true. This means it’s time for our fall pilgrimage to Camp Kintail to help prepare it for winter.

Camp Kintail began as a children’s camp, run by the Presbyterian Church in Canada. It has become far more than just that, but it’s primary mission is still to help our children grow in faith and confidence.

Each spring and fall, the men and boys from Central head up for a work weekend at the camp. Of course, there is far more to the retreat than just work. The food is wonderful and the surroundings beautiful. There is time for fellowship, for meeting new friends and renewing and deepening friendships.

What to expect

Friday evening, as the team trickles in, we have a time of snacks and fellowship, with card games or maybe board games, or maybe just a time to chat by the fire.

Saturday morning we have a hearty breakfast and then it’s time to head out to work. Most of the work is usually outside.
In the past, we’ve cut down trees and cleaned up brush, laid a sidewalk, built picnic tables, picnic tables and more picnic tables, planted trees, prepared the cabins and Yurts for the winter, and cleaned up the shoreline.

Around 12, we take a break for lunch, before heading to finish the items on our list.

With the chores done, late afternoon is a time to rest and to get cleaned up.

The evening dinner is usually quite a feast. We are very well fed. After dinner, we usually have a devotional and one member of our group shares his testimony. Then it’s time to relax around the fire, telling stories (some of which might be true), or maybe play a game or two of cards.

Sunday morning, we have our church service, say our good-byes and head for home.

These weekends are a wonderful opportunity to make a difference, to make new friends and to share a time of reflection.

All of the men of Central are welcome to join us. For more information, talk to Scott McHardy.
