World AIDS Day takes place on 1 December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness.

Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day.

At Central, we take this time to remember the millions of people whose lives have been touched by this disease. Specifically, we remember our friends at Rachel’s Children’s Home. Rachel’s Home is an orphanage in Maputsoe, Lesotho. Most of the children it shelters lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. AIDS wiped out a generation of Basotho people, plunging life expectancy below 40 years, leaving behind more than 100,000 orphaned children.

Thoughout the World, we are making strides to end the scourge of HIV/AIDS. This is true in Lesotho as well, but there’s still a lot to do. Thousands of children have been left orphaned. At Rachel’s Home, we are partnering with Hilda & Godwill to make a difference in the lives of a few of these orphaned children. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a drop in the bucket; but in their lives it’s huge.

Oh, and let’s remember one last thing. A full bucket, is nothing more than a bucket full of drops. No drop is insignificant or unimportant.
