An opportunity to join hundreds of Presbyterian women from across Canada, meet and interact with International guests from around the world, meet old friends and make new friends, celebrate our common beliefs, and participate in excellent workshops and forums. It is about gathering together to celebrate our common belief, engage in exuberant worship, and explore our theme Burst Forth based on Isaiah 35.
The year 2014 is a very important milestone in the history of the Women’s Missionary Society. Three organizations which had evolved from specific missions united on May 14, 1914, to form the Women’s Missionary Society of The Presbyterian Church in Canada. Burst Forth is in celebration of the 100th anniversary of this event.
The conference will be held at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel and Conference Centre in Richmond Hill, ON from May 16 to 19,2014.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Samantha Nutt, an uncompromising and powerful advocate for justice and peace. Nutt’s boundless energy, dedication, and compassion are evident in her writing and presentations. She lays out realistic, lasting solutions, and shows how to move beyond outdated notions of charity towards a more progressive, inclusive, and respectful world view.
The Rev. John L. Bell, a native of Kilmarnock Scotland and currently working with the Wild Goose Resource Group is a liturgical composer who writes co-operatively with colleagues in Glasgow. An ordained minister with the Church of Scotland, who has the amazing ability to present hymns that minister to the mind and soul, will be the praise leader in the worship sessions as well as a presenter in workshop and theme presentations.
Central Church is blessed to be sending 6 participants. We have been busy raising money to be able to attend. We hope to return from the conference renewed and energized to share with other women what we have learned. Look for an event in June where we with be sharing some of our experiences.
