Help Wanted!

February 23, 2017 By admin

Are you a bit of a techie? Or maybe you’d just like to learn a bit about technology.

We’re looking for volunteers to help record and stream our Sunday morning services.

On a typical Sunday morning, you’ll need to arrive at church 20 minutes before the service and you’ll have about 10 minutes of work after the service. Generally, there isn’t much to do during the service, so for the most part, you can just enjoy the service.

We will train you. Training will take about 15-20 minutes.

If you’re interested, please email us at web@cpcmail.ca

Dirty Hands

July 1, 2015 By admin

DirtyHandsEvery once in a while, the Presbytery of Waterloo-Wellington sends a delegation to the churches in the region to ensure that the church is healthy.

At one such visit, we were asked as a congregation what we thought made this home of ours special. As the speaker after speaker got up and talked about the music ministry, Aubrey’s sermons, our children’s and youth programs, I got more and more frustrated. Yes, it was all true. We have amazing people who do wonderful work with our children and youth. Aubrey is an incredible minister. Our music is diverse and beautiful.

But to me, those were only symptoms of a beautiful church, or maybe products of a beautiful church.

To me, the real beauty of a living Church such as ours was this:

Central is a place where you can get your hands dirty. It’s a place where you can serve. It’s a place where you can help. It’s a place from which you can try to make a positive difference in our world. I used the word “from” deliberately. Central is not just a place “in” which you can make a difference.

There is no feeling more amazing than knowing that you have made a positive difference in another person’s life. It is a gift from God.

And most important, if you don’t get it quite right, if you mess up, and we all do, Central is not a place of judgement. It is a place where you will find willing hands to help you clean up the mess. Those willing hands will also help you get back on the horse and try again.

So, as the hymn title says, “Be not Afraid”. Get Involved.

The Music Ministry

The choir is always looking for new members. Choir practice is Thursday nights at 7:30. If you’re not sure, come out for practice and give it a try. You’re under no obligation to join us on Sunday morning.

The Praise and Worship Band practices once a month and performs one Sunday a month. If God’s call for you is pushing you in this direction, please talk to Emile. He can arrange for you to attend our band practice.

There are many ways to share your musical gifts.

The Food Baskets

September 13, 2014 By admin

Every Sunday, we collect food for the Food Bank. There are two baskets  in the foyer at the back of the church. This is a very simple way to get involved. Just bring a non-perishable food item and drop it in the basket. Every little bit helps. Together, we can show God’s love and build a better community.

Missions and Outreach

September 13, 2014 By admin

The Missions and Outreach Committee manages Central’s missions. We are currently supporting a pre-school in Lesotho. We are also supporting 6 high-school students in that impoverished country. In our own community, we support the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank, provide volunteers for Mike’s Lunch Baskett, assist with fund-raisers for the Alzheimer Society and much more. When members of our congregation step forward to work with missions, both at home and around the world, the Missions and Outreach Committee is ready to help.

With all that is going on, we are always looking for new people, to bring new energy and fresh new ideas to help build a better community and a stronger world.

Our committee currently consists of:

  •   Denise McClellan, Greg Gowing, George Barrie, Sandy Barrie, Lorna From, Alejandro Ortiz, Doris Taylor, Horst Wohlgemut, Lawrence Cressman, and Grace & Henry Van Druten

Yes, it is a big committee; but, we tackle a lot of projects and we can always use more help. If you are interested in helping, please contact the committee chair, Denise McClellan.
