The community church had been destroyed by fire when Doug arrived but over the course of the next year a new church was completed and then dedicated by the Bishop in September 2009. The new Anglican Church is named after St John The Baptist. After several years without regular services the congregation now has a choice of three Sunday services. With a beautiful sanctuary Sunday School, meeting rooms and administration offices, the church has truly “risen from the ashes”.
There is only one stained glass window located behind the altar. This was rescued from the previous building. The original bell hangs in a tower constructed separately next to the church and is tolled before each service. With a bright red steel roof the church stands out as a beacon from the river and the air.
