Chief Sam Cook School

The school can accommodate over 600 students from nursery to grade 12. A fine example of modern native architecture, the building represents a bald eagle.

One wing accommodates nursery to grade 5. The other wing contains grades 7-12. The body and head of the eagle comprise administration offices and the gymnasium.

The  idea and finally reality of the school grew from the hard work of a group of determined band members who went off to University and became teachers who wanted a school that Split Lake children deserved.

In April 2010 the school was closed after it suffered a major fire and did not re-open until November 2010.The classes were scattered around the Community creating enormous  challenges for students and staff. Up and running now the school looks to a better future.

Much enthusiasm is generated in the school by many students, parents and staff members. This is evident at special times of the year such as Christmas, Halloween and the Winter Festival. Wonderful opportunities are waiting at the Universities of Manitoba and Winnipeg for Chief Sam Cook graduates. We pray that our efforts at Central Church will help in encouraging students to spend more time in school and take full advantage of those opportunities.
