A child at Rachel's HomeThe Children of Rachel’s Home

The Penny Project is all about the children of Rachel’s Home.

Our goal is to give these children, the knowledge and the skills that they need to be leaders in their community.

More than anything else, Lesotho needs a generation of young adults who understand the problems their country faces; who have the skills and tools needed to face those problems and who have the compassion and the determination to make a difference.

Rachel’s Home provides these children with a loving and nurturing christian home. Many of these children have endured almost unimaginable trauma. They have lost their parents and found themselves desperately trying to survive on the mean streets of Maputsoe.

Often as not, they are picked up by the police and simply dumped at Rachel’s Home. There they find themselves surrounded by strangers. But, at Rachel’s Home they find strangers who care and they find a place where they can begin to heal.

With the shelter they find here, these children can find their way. They can learn the skills they need to be part of that generation of young adults who through their skills and compassion they can make a difference.

They receive an education. When they graduate from the primary school,  with your help, we’re there to fund their secondary and post-secondary education. Twelve graduates are now attending secondary school and three have moved on to post-secondary education.

On this page, we will introduce you to the children that you are supporting and we will follow their progress.

We will also introduce you to Hilda, Godwill and the teachers who have dedicated their lives to helping these children.
