Youth in Grades 7-9 do not have classes on Praise and Worship Sundays or Children’s Church. They are invited to remain in the sanctuary for worship. Alternatively, the are welcome to act as shepherds and assist the teachers with their classes.

Leaders teaching JK to Grade 6 are using the Faithweaver Program. From January to April, they are using the Winter 2011-2012 curriculum. For a breakdown of lesson plans, click on 2011-2014f aithweaverscopesequence

The 2&3 year old class is using the Play and Worship program – a fun and easy-to-use curriculum that explores a single theme over a 5 week period. The repetition, combined with a variety of activities, helps reinforce basic bible principles in a way our youngest students can easily grasp. Tubing at Chicopee Tube Park

   Time:    Arrive at 5:45 p.m.  Tubing is from 6-8 p.m.

   Cost:     $10 (please speak to Stacey if cost is a concern)

Notes:  Dress warmly!  Children under 8 years of age must wear a CSA approved helmet.

The service will begin @ 7:00pm on Christmas Eve.

The Meaning of “Advent”

The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival.” The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his

First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent. Thus, Advent is far more than simply marking a 2,000 year old event in history. It is celebrating a truth about God, the revelation of God in Christ whereby all of creation might be reconciled to God. That is a process in which we now participate, and the consummation of which we anticipate. Scripture reading for Advent will reflect this emphasis on the Second Advent, including themes of accountability for faithfulness at his coming, judgment on sin, and the hope of eternal life.

In this double focus on past and future, Advent also symbolizes the spiritual journey of individuals and a congregation, as they affirm that Christ has come, that He is present in the world today, and that He will come again in power. That acknowledgment provides a basis for Kingdom ethics, for holy living arising from a profound sense that we live “between the times” and are called to be faithful stewards of what is entrusted to us as God’s people. So

, as the church celebrates God’s inbreaking into history in the Incarnation, and anticipates a future consummation to that history for which “all creation is groaning awaiting its redemption,” it also confesses its

own responsibility as a people commissioned to “love the Lord your God with all your heart” and to “love your neighbor as yourself.”

Friday is Remembrance Day. There will be services at the cenotaphs at Queen’s Square, at Central Park in Preston and in Hespeler. Please take a moment to remember those service men and women who died in two World Wars, the Korean Conflict, our Peace-Keeping operations and Afghanistan.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. for free play. The program runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

All families are invited to join us on September 11th for our Sunday School Kick-Off. This is a great opportunity to see what programs are available for your children, and enjoy a meal as you spend time with other families.

I am looking forward to another year of fun and learning with these kids,  and helping them grow in their Christian faith, with the help of Christ’s Holy Spirit.
