Calling all Men, the much anticipated men’s bible study is ready to go and on the launch pad. Come and join us every second & fourth Tuesday at
7:00 pm in the church choir room, for a time of fellowship and joyful studyof God’s word.

We will kick off with a study of the book of Esekiel. All men are welcome from High School age and up – so please bring a friend, your sons or anyone who would enjoy taking some time to examine and enjoy God’s word.

Friday April 27-29, the men will be donating the their time and their energy to prepare the camp for summer.

This is a weekend where the men of Central will have an opportunity to :

•use their strength and abilities to prepare the camp site and facilities for summer ministry
(landscaping/simple construction/basic electrical and plumbing)
• get to know each other while working and relaxing
• reflect on how to live as men putting their faith into action
• relax and have some great fun together
• invite sons to work with, be instructed in a new skill by experienced workers

This is the first event for this new ministry.

This ministry hopes to find new ways to reach out to the men of Central, giving them an opportunity to put their skills to work helping our community and also giving them an opportunity for fellowship. New Friendships will be built both through work and play as together we build a stronger church in a stronger community.

Where: Knox’s Galt Presbyterian Church

Hosted by Central and Knox’s Presbyterian Churches

Date: August 13 – 17, 2012

Time: 9:00 a.m.-11:45 a.m.

Who: Children and youth age 4-12 (by June 2012)

The Church Audio Academy is a 1 day training course that equips church volunteers with the skills and knowledge to better the sound quality in their church.

It will consist of two sessions:

1. A morning open lecture style covering theory, terminology fully open to questions as we go through the morning. We cover the basics in typical board layout and functionality, into mixing theory and basic coverage of compression and gating.
2. An afternoon session where we will have members from the worship team come out and do a live soundcheck, and then hands on mixing applying the concepts talked about in the morning.

Space is limited – please register after the service in the hall.

There is a small registration fee of $5 to help cover the cost of this event.

Since the days of the early church, in the decades and centuries after the death and Resurrection of Christ, Christians have regarded the period of Lent as a time for repentance and reflection. Some people chose to observe Lent by fasting (going without food and/or water for a period of time), by giving up something during Lent (sweets; the sports page), and by taking on such habits that will increase one’s devotion to Christ. Lent was a time of giving something up, a time devoid of joy, a time for looking dismal in public: wise-cracking joking was out, grim looking faces were in.

Dismal is not what Lent should be about. True fasting is one of the traditional disciplines that Christians have used through the years as a way getting in touch with divine within; however, too often a fasting person begins to present a gloomy-Gus personae to the world around them. As if to say, “Look at me, I am trying to be holy.”

Because Presbyterians rebelled against all things Catholic, Lent was never observed in most Presbyterian churches until recent years. We now acknowledge that Lent is such a rich time. It is an excellent opportunity for us to really focus on things that matter. While many Christians observe Lent these days, too few celebrate it. Lent is meant to remind us that the days are getting longer – Spring is right around the corner. Signs of life are preparing to bud right in front of our eyes. And, we need to prepare ourselves to see these signs. We prepare for Easter Sunday and the wonderful mystery of the Resurrection of Jesus and the conquering of death. We need to focus on the abundant life that Jesus told his disciples, was his raison’ d’etre:  

“I have come that you might have life, and have it abundantly.”

That is what Easter is about. For us, that’s what Lent is about.

• Celebrate it with your family and friends.
• Celebrate it through your actions and words.
• Serve it for breakfast, and lunch and supper.
