On January 22, Stacey & Donnie will be cooking up a storm.  So what’s on the menu? Spaghetti & Meatballs, Salad and maybe something special for dessert.

Proceeds from the dinner will support our 2012 mission in Lesotho. So stick around after church, have a great meal and support our mission.

During the month of January, baskets clearly labeled for The Bridges will be placed on the table in the Foyer.

The list of most used items includes:

• small tubes of toothpaste, toothbrushes,
• deodorant – men’s and women’s,
• razors,
• coffee, coffee whitener, sugar,
• lip balm,
• shampoo, conditioner,
• feminine hygiene products,
• aspirin/tylenol,
• hats, mitts, gloves,
• socks, men’s and women’s underwear.

We can arrange to have a speaker come to your event. We have a large team of  volunteers who have experienced Maputsoe first-hand. Each of us has our own story to tell. Each of us can give you a very personal glimpse into our Mission at Rachel’s Children’s Home.

At the candlight service in our historic sanctuary, we will celebrate the gift of Jesus, through story and music.

The service will begin @ 7:00pm on Christmas Eve.

The Meaning of “Advent”

The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival.” The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his

First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent. Thus, Advent is far more than simply marking a 2,000 year old event in history. It is celebrating a truth about God, the revelation of God in Christ whereby all of creation might be reconciled to God. That is a process in which we now participate, and the consummation of which we anticipate. Scripture reading for Advent will reflect this emphasis on the Second Advent, including themes of accountability for faithfulness at his coming, judgment on sin, and the hope of eternal life.

In this double focus on past and future, Advent also symbolizes the spiritual journey of individuals and a congregation, as they affirm that Christ has come, that He is present in the world today, and that He will come again in power. That acknowledgment provides a basis for Kingdom ethics, for holy living arising from a profound sense that we live “between the times” and are called to be faithful stewards of what is entrusted to us as God’s people. So

, as the church celebrates God’s inbreaking into history in the Incarnation, and anticipates a future consummation to that history for which “all creation is groaning awaiting its redemption,” it also confesses its

own responsibility as a people commissioned to “love the Lord your God with all your heart” and to “love your neighbor as yourself.”

Come join us for lunch after the service on Sunday December 4th. Elsie and Anne will prepare the second of their home cooked meals. The cost is $10/person with the proceeds going to support our 2012 mission to Rachel’s Home. Stay tuned for the January date to be announced as well.

We are now less than four month from our departure date. On March 7th, with Elsie as our leader, we will begin the long journey back to Rachel’s Home. Events like this are vital to our ongoing efforts to improve their lives and remind them that we haven’t forgotten them and they still have a future.
