During the month of January, baskets clearly labeled for The Bridges will be placed on the table in the Foyer.

The list of most used items includes:

• small tubes of toothpaste, toothbrushes,
• deodorant – men’s and women’s,
• razors,
• coffee, coffee whitener, sugar,
• lip balm,
• shampoo, conditioner,
• feminine hygiene products,
• aspirin/tylenol,
• hats, mitts, gloves,
• socks, men’s and women’s underwear.

It is truly amazing to see how God has blessed the Gleaners over the past 3 years

We continue to receive glowing reports from orphanages, schools, medical centres and refugee camps around the world.Our soup mix is filling stomachs and changing lives.

Thanks go to the dedicated staff,volunteers and donors of produce and money.

Every day an average of 50 volunteers trim 4000-7000 pounds of fresh produce.

The produce is dried and ready to be made into soup mix-thats 25,000-30,000 serving of soup each morning.

Donated direct from the farm,packing plants and distribution centres,produce is received from Holland Marsh,Grand Bend,Aylmer,Elmira,Niagara and Toronto.

Dried goods, barley,lentils,onions, and split peas come from across  Canada.

Donations of fresh and dried produce are needed and appreciated.

It’s Shoe Box Time Again for Operation Christmas Child

Connie Self will be bringing shoe boxes to Central beginning Sunday Oct.  17. They will be placed in the Narthex and in the church hall for pick up. Each box will have a brochure to tell you what type of gift items are appropriate to fill up your shoe boxes. The boxes must be returned to Central no later than Nov. 14 for distribution to various countries all over the globe.

When culturally appropriate, children that receive gift-filled shoe boxes are offered a colourful booklet in their own language, titled The Greatest Gift of All, which explains the Good News of Jesus Christ. For more information, contact Connie or go to the website samaritanspurse.ca.

We have invited several Cambridge volunteer organizations to set up booths to provide information about the valuable work they do in our community and let us know about various opportunities to volunteer within their organizations. The Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank is having a Thanksgiving Food Drive this month. It aims to collect 96, 100 pounds of food to see it through the winter months. Demand has been increasing steadily especially in the hard economic times we have come through. Let’s do our part at Central by filling up our baskets to the brim each Sunday remaining in October.
